Il giorno 13/02/2026 presso l'Aula Giorgio Morandi (S. Giovanni in Monte) dell'Università di Bologna si terrà un seminario dedicato al progetto PRIN "Reviving The Liberal: Literature and Politics between Britain and Italy, 1821-23".

Il seminario, in lingua inglese, prevede la partecipazione del Prof. Nicholas Roe (University of St Andrews) e i membri delle unità coinvolte nel progetto: Università di Parma; Università di Pisa; Università di Firenze; Università "La Sapienza" Roma ed è aperto a docenti e student* dell'UNIBO.

La giornata si svolgerà in due momenti: al mattino il Prof. Nicholas Roe terrà una lezione plenaria, seguita da brevi interventi dei membri dell'unità di Bologna (Franca Dellarosa, Fabio Liberto e Serena Baiesi).

Nel pomeriggio, si volgerà il workshop, coordinato dal prof. Roe, in cui si discuteranno alcuni passaggi del periodico The Liberal proposti dai partecipanti delle varie unità (Diego Saglia, Fernando Cioni, Giacomo Ferrari, Alessia Testoni).

Synopsis in English:

As a renowned scholar in the field of Romantic literature whose work closely aligns with the focus of the PRIN research project on The Liberal, Professor Nicholas Roe (University of St Andew)  will deliver a seminar lecture examining how The Liberal may have influenced his 1828 volume on Lord Byron. In particular, Hazlitt’s “My First Acquaintance” and Hunt’s Letters from Abroad will be considered as crucial enablers for Hunt’s work on the Lord Byron volume, while the “failure” of The Liberal will be discussed as a factor that, in many respects, opened up creative space for Hunt’s subsequent work. The lecture will be addressed to all members of the research group, involving the Universities of Bologna, Parma, La Sapienza Rome, Pisa, and Florence, and will also be open to UNIBO faculty and students. In addition, Professor Roe will lead a specialised workshop devoted to the annotation work being carried out by the various units as the final output of the project. The workshop will focus on the reading, analysis, transcription, and critical annotation of the periodical and will be open to all project members as well as to the wider academic community.
