Here you will find information on the activities of the Centre and its members. CISR has its administrative headquarter at the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LILEC) of the University of Bologna.

Byron and the Mediterranean “Cult of the South”: a bicentennial symposium

Speakers will address Byron’s personal, poetic, and political interactions with a wider range of cultures throughout the Mediterranean Rim: Portugal, Spain, Albania, Greece, the Balkans, and Turkey, as well as Italy.

48th International Byron Conference

Two hundred years after Byron's death, the International Association of Byron Societies will assemble in Greece to honour Byron, discuss his work, assess its place within the Romantic movement, and explore his afterlife and lasting impact on global culture.

Theatre project "Lovers' Vows"

A study day dedicated to "Regency Mania" will be held in late October. On this occasion English Literature students from Humanities and Languages will perform "Lovers' Vows," a Regency comedy by Elizabeth Inchbald, very appreciated by Jane Austen.

Imagining Italy: Space, Gender and Discourse in Women’s Writing 1789-1914

This conference will explore women writers’ contributions to the representation of Italy in Europe from the 19th century to the outbreak of the First World War. In particular, anyone is invited to contribute through the composition of papers, as explained in the attached file.

Romantic Beginnings, Romantic Futures

The planned conferencewill combine reflections on the past with thoughts on Romantic ideas of the future, referring to the philosophical writings of Johann Gottfried Herder, especially the part where he deals with the methodology of literary research and the ways of doing historiography.
