Parametric simulator of the aerodynamic drag of a complete aircraft

Flow visualization of a turbulent boundary layer

Description: the work is part of the activities of the CICLoPE laboratory, an international laboratory born to study wall bounded turbulence, focusing deeply on the generation and control on friction drag. This study has a considerable relevance for aernautical application where friction drag has a dominant role. In order to assess the impact that the reduction of the turbulent friction coefficient may have on a typical mission of a commercial aircraft, we intend to develop a calculation tool based on empirical formulas (e.g. Hoerner) or analytics capable of estimating the overall resistance of a complete aircraft according to the parameters of the aircraft and the mission.
