University of Al-Qadisiyah

Established in 1987, the University of Al-Qadisiyah hosts several colleges including the College of Arts, School of Medicine, Pharmacy, Economics, Law and finally College of Archaeology. It serves over 21,000 students. Due to the archaeological nature of the province of Qadisiyah the College of Archaeology was established in 2014 with two major departments: Ancient Archaeology & Islamic Archaeology. It serves 180 students. The University of Al-Qadisiyah (QU) will participate in all the planned activities of the project.

Kadhum Aljibouri is the President of the University of Al-Qadisiyah and the team-leader of BANUU at the University. He has got his PhD, MA and BA from Mustansiriyah University specialized in Clinical Psychology. Prof. Aljibouri ran different administrative positions: (2004) Vice-President of University of Al-Qadisiyah, (2012) the Dean of the College of Education for Women and represents MOHESR in Ukrainian as the Iraqi Cultural Attaché for (2) years.
Prof. Aljibouri has helped in initiating several new departments in humanities subjects. Many MA Theses and PhD dissertations are written under his supervision. He has several publications on a wide range of topics on psychology, society and statistics.
He contributes in developing many initiatives that help the Iraqi society during the period of COVID-19. He encourages all the colleges of the University to support the health organizations in overcoming this pandemic. He has been succeeding in leading the University towards great stages of online education in an attempt to establish the Virtual University System. All the contributions made have been highly appreciated by a number of ministries, especially MOHESR, and other organizations.

Rahim Alhamzawi is Professor of Measure Theory, the Vice Chancellor for Scientific Affairs and the Head of the Department of Quality Assurance at the University of Al-Qadisiyah. Prof. Al-hamzawi is BANUU Project Manager. Gained his BSc, MSc in Statistics from the University of Al-Qadisiyah and Baghdad consecutively and his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Brunel/UK. He is also a senior Lecturer in the Department of Statistics at University of Al-Qadisiyah. His research interest area is rather wide, currently focusing on Bayesian variable selection in quantile regression models and also on Cosmology and Gravitational Lensing, specific interest is on understanding how small fluctuations in the early universe grew to form the large-scale structure observed today. Prof. Al-hamzawi's large numbers of scientific publications led him to receive 4 awards of honors from Iraqi bodies and international institutions.

Mohammed Kamil Rokan is Professor of Antiquities and currently the Dean of the College of Archeology at the University of Al-Qadisiyah. He worked previously as the Head of the Department of Archeology and the Director of the University Museum.  He has published 5 books on the antiquities of Iraq and the Aramaic Language and more than 20 articles on Archeology and Semitic Languages in Iraqi and Russian scientific journals.

Sattar Abdulhassan Jabbar is the Head of the Department of Archeology, College of Archeology, University of Al-Qadisiyah. He has MA in Semitic Languages at Baghdad University (2000) and PhD in Languages at the University of Berlin (2013). He has published 18 books, has more than 30 research papers. He is also member of the editorial board in scientific journals. He held several positions including: Head of the Department of Archeology/College of Arts, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs/College of Archeology and Head of Department of Cuneiform Studies/College of Archeology.

Abbas Al Hussainy is Professor of Ancient Near Eastern civilizations in University of Al-Qadisiyah, with a particular research focus on the Results of the excavations and Survey, archaeological heritage of central and southern Iraq. His research activity encompasses societies, religion, settlement patterns and political history in Bronze Age Mesopotamia, all aspects that he analyzes by means of archaeological excavations (especially the major ancient city of Marad, Iraq), surveys (in the western area of Al-Qadisiyah, Iraq), he also carried out salvage and preservation projects aimed at preserving sites and monuments in Iraq. He held important administrative and operational positions within the Chair of Department of  Archaeology in University of Al-Qadisiyah (2003-2006), Director of the Museum of the University of Al-Qadisiyah (2009-2013), Chair of State Board of Antiquities and Heritage of Iraq (SBAH)(2006-2007) and he has been Chief Editor of the journal Sumer(2007) and General Director Excavation  and Investigations in SBAH(2014-2015) In addition to his intense teaching activity in Iraq, he lectured extensively in Europe and he has been Visiting Professor at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, London.(2008), University of Bologna ( 2016), University of Munich (2017), University of Cambridge (2018). Since 2000 he takes part to international congresses on ancient Near Eastern archaeology, delivering papers and moderating workshops. On behalf of the SBAH, and in his capacity as university professor, he is actively engaged in safekeeping, promoting and preserving the Iraqi archaeological heritage via lectures, restoration projects, publications and other related activities.

Asma A.O. Al Sabah is Head of Scholarships and Cultural Relations and International Agreements Department / English and Translation lecturer at the department of English language/Faculty of Arts and The TOEFL center at the University of Al-Qadisiyah since 2014. She lived in the UK since 1991, during which she worked as Associate lecturer of English language, Arabic as a foreign language and Translation at the University of Salford and the University of Central Lancashire (UcLan) ; and works as a freelance Sworn Interpreter and registered in Iraq and UK. as well as being a member of the Iraqi Translators Association and the Federation international Translators (FIT; outside academic life, Asma is an activist on the thematic issues of human rights, women’s rights, migration/IDP and refugee rights, Protection of Cultural Heritage of Iraq and vocational training; holds a long experience as a qualified TOT by the British Council, GIZ and ATU.

Ali A. Mahdi is Lecturer in the Department of English at University of Al-Qadisiyah since 2017, currently acting as Head Assistant of the Department and the Cultural Relation Officer of the University, a member of the Career Center (2018-19), A Lecturer (2009-2017) at University of Kufa, and a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA), Arabic scholar at Georgia State University (GSU), Atlanta, USA, (2014-15). He awarded MA English from the University of Pune, India 2009.

Ali Mahdi is a member of the Iraqi Translators' Association. He published (4) academic articles. He participated in Delphi-Iraq program which funded by the British Council in Iraq, 2012. He coordinates Great Debate Program with University of Washington, Brothel 2018. He also was (2018-19) member of the supporting team of Education for Co-existence in Iraq Program (ECI) which funded by IREX. He is a TEFL Certified from SILC, the University of Arkansas, USA, 2019.
