This second Seminar of the European project ARCHEA is dedicated to studies on the place of public spaces in contemporary urban projects and in Higher Education. This Seminar follows the Seminar in the University of Parma in December 2018, dedicated to the presentation of methodological points of view and cultural positions about the project of the public space expressed by the different ARCHEA partner teams.
The Seminar, to be held at ENSA Normandie, aims to focus on a specific type of public space, the urban natural space. Much more than the result of a simple visual approach to the project, the natural public space is a urban material which is the foundation of a project approach of the city and the territory in resonance with ecological questions and contemporary societal requirements.
Thinking about the role of natural spaces in cities puts in the forefront the design of the ground: a ground not reduced to its surface but concerning its basement and its identity as a living environment, and that wonders about its ability to constitute a structuring material of the urban and also territorial design.
Interventions will question, on one hand, the theories but also the practices of urban design conception, and, in particular, for public space. Then the issues of urban, landscaped and natural territory planning will be detailed through different case studies. Finally, the presentations will address the education on the urban project at the territorial level through schools and faculties of architecture and landscape.
