Proton-Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) Powertrains

Fuel cells are an interesting and promising alternative in the field of sustainable mobility, with respect to classic gasoline or diesel-based internal combustion engines. The research activity focuses on modeling these kind of devices with MATLAB/Simulink, for validation, optimization and control-strategy purposes:

  • Validation-Optimization: An accurate model helps the users to identify the main critical points, allows to foresee results and performances without the need of performing real tests and eases the process of finding the most suitable components for the Balance-of-Plant (BoP) of the powertrain (i.e. compressors, treatment units...).

  • Control strategies definition: development of control strategies to maximize the vehicle performances, minimizing consumptions, in a versatile way depending on the particular hybird configuration employed, on the kind of vehicle and on the mission to perform.
