Within the lab three engine test benches are present that can host piston and turbo-shaft engines, with available powers ranging from 150 to 600 CV.
The main research activities held on these topics are related to the control and the diagnosis of the engines, as well as to new types of combustion finalized to improve engine efficiency and reduce emissions. Some of the researches developed within the lab:
Water injection on a turbo-shaft engine to reduce NOx emissions
Development of a virtual turbo speed sensor using the acoustic emission
Knock detection using a piezoelectric washer
Calibration of piston engines for aeronautic application
Control strategies development based on in-cylinder pressure measurement
Engine control strategy development to work at the knock limit
Internal Combustion Engine and Gas Turbine testing facilities
