I – The internship within the project Lost and Anonymous Works of the Latin Middle Ages (OPA) is a free training opportunity organized and supervised by the OPA Editorial Board in Florence. It stems from the experience in distance learning developed by the central editorial office of Medioevo Latino (MEL).

II – It consists of a maximum of 6 hours of individual training, or training in small groups of up to five participants, to be carried out on demand during the period from April 2026 to January 2027, structured as follows:

  • 2 hours of training on the methodologies employed in the Integrated Archive for the Middle Ages (AIM), on the structure of the OPA record, and on the bibliographical and editorial methods used for its compilation;
  • 2 hours of supervised drafting of one or more OPA records;
  • 2 hours devoted to the review and evaluation of the materials produced.

III – Requirements

  • Academic requirements: a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in disciplines related to the study of medieval Latin authors, works, and manuscripts.
  • Technical requirements: a PC or Mac with the latest version of the Google Chrome browser. You will need to install the Jitsi Meetings extension when prompted and authorize access to the microphone and webcam; a microphone; headphones or speakers; and a webcam.

IV – To enroll, the following are required:

  • an application addressed to the President of SISMEL, to be sent to mel.formazione@sismelfirenze.it, in which applicants should also indicate their preferred period for undertaking the training. Applications may be submitted from 1 to 20 March, from 1 to 20 May 2025,  from 1 to 20 August and from 1 to 20 November 2026;
  • a cover letter from a qualified scholar in the field;
  • a curriculum vitae.

V – Up to five students will be admitted, selected based on their curriculum and submitted documentation. Only admitted candidates will be notified.
At the end of the training program, a certificate of participation will be issued by SISMEL. The certificate will be awarded exclusively to participants who, within six months of completing the training, have prepared at least three entries based on a list of texts provided by the central editorial office of OPA. Participants will also have free access to the Mirabile databases for two weeks. In addition, those participants who complete the three entries within the deadline will receive a complimentary volume from the OPA series, to be collected at the SISMEL in Florence.
