The Occupational Health Physician and the Designated Physician

The Occupational Health Physician cooperates with the Employer and the Prevention and Protection Service in assessing risks, providing training and information to workers, and arranging the first aid service.
The Occupational Health Physician is also responsible for health surveillance, through risk-specific health protocols, contributes to the implementation and enhancement of voluntary health promotion programmes, visits work environments at least once a year or at different intervals, based on risk assessment.
At the Employer’s request, the Occupational Health Physician provides a medical opinion on fitness for work considering any disability or difficulty in connection with the job assigned.

The Designated Physician is an Occupational Health Physician qualified to perform Medical Radiation Protection, i.e. health surveillance of those exposed to ionising radiation in their work, study or research environment, pursuant to Legislative Decree 101/2020.
After obtaining their qualification, Designated Radiation Protection Physicians are entered in a national list kept by the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies.
