Travel information

Easily accessible by car, train, bus or plane, Bologna is strategically located in the heart of northern Italy not far from the Romagna Riviera and cities such as Florence, Venice and Verona.

Major highways connecting Europe with southern Italy intersect in Bologna: the Autostrada del Sole (A1) Milan-Naples; the A13 to Ferrara, Padua, Venice and Trieste; and the A14 to the Adriatic coast (Rimini, Ravenna, Ancona, Bari).

Bologna is Italy's main rail hub; a high-speed line connects it to Florence (37 min.), Milan (65 min.), Rome (2 hr. 22 min.). Venice can be reached in less than an hour and a half.

Guglielmo Marconi International Airport, a 15-minute bus ride from Centro Storico, connects Bologna to major Italian and European airports.

Other airports close to Bologna and well connected by the highway and rail network are: Florence Amerigo Vespucci (FLR), Verona Valerio Catullo (VRN), Milan Linate (LIN), Milan Malpensa (MXP), Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA), Rimini Federico Fellini (RMI), Parma Giuseppe Verdi (PMF), and Forlì Luigi Ridolfi (FRL).
