Aim of the project

The anaerobic digestion treatment of organic wastes represents a valid strategy for producing energy. The obtained digestate can then be reused as organic fertilizer instead of non-renewable mineral ones. Although the high agricultural value of digestate is known, the presence of potential pollutants such as microplastics (MP), antibiotics, pesticides, and potentially toxic elements (PTE) is not equally well-documented.

The 3IMPACT project aims to assess the environmental impact derived from the agricultural application of digestate as an organic fertilizer by characterizing its content in terms of microplastics, antibiotics, pesticides, and potentially toxic elements, as well as studying the interaction of these compounds in digestate from different sources and their impact on the soil.
