This hands-on, theoretical and practical workshop will introduce the fundamentals of documentary photography. The workshop includes theoretical lessons on techniques, history, and visual anthropology, combined with field exercises. Participants will develop personal projects using their own equipment, sharing and discussing results in class. This immersive experience aims to build technical skills and refine approaches to professional photography work.

  • On documentary photography: a brief theoretical overview, key concepts, tools of visual anthropology, and theme selection.

20 February 2025 

  • Writing and planning: how to structure an idea and shape a photographic project/reportage. Classroom discussion

27 February 2025 

The lesson on February 27th will be rescheduled for March 20th.

 

  • Equipment: camera, lenses, and basics of framing
  • Discussion of assigned projects/exercises

06 March 2025 

  •  Selection and collective editing of individual projects created by students

The workshop is led by Margherita Caprilli

Margherita Caprilli, a photographer and filmmaker, is a founding member of the "Un Cinquantesimo" Cooperative, which tells stories through audiovisual media. The cooperative works in the cultural, social, and environmental sectors, aiming to promote virtuous initiatives dedicated to helping the planet and its inhabitants.
