MathCityMap is an app available for free in the most popular stores. It combines the idea of a mathematical path (already known for some time) with the current technological possibilities of mobile devices. A mathematical path on MathCityMap is a set of mathematical tasks or questions related to real objects found in the world. The app contains various mathematical paths associated with a map that shows the locations of points of interest and the description of the different questions.
MathCityMap has two components. The first component is a web portal that serves as an open access database for creating outdoor math taks. Every teacher/author can use public activities and create personal activities. The other component is the MathCityMap app for students which shows the map on which the tasks are located. Additionally, the app provides tips, feedback and a sample solution for each question.
For more information on the app you can visit the international project website www.mathcitymap.eu also available in English. The project is delevoped at Goethe University Frankfurt in the working group of Prof. Dr. Matthias Ludwig together with international partners.
