Hello! My name is Caroline. I’m a third-year Business and Economics student at the University of Bologna, originally from São Paulo, Brazil. I’ve always dreamed of living and studying abroad, and after finishing high school, I made the decision to pursue my university career in another country. Before moving to Bologna, I spent a year living in Rome—a city that made me fall in love with Italy: the language, the culture, the food, the people, and the lifestyle. That experience confirmed what I already felt: Italy was where I wanted to continue my academic journey. I chose the University of Bologna mainly because of its strong reputation and academic excellence. Although I had never been to Bologna before, the city quickly won me over. It was welcoming and easy to navigate, and I found myself saying yes to every new opportunity. Very soon, Bologna became my second home.
During my first semester, I was surprised by how many Brazilians were in Bologna—it helped me adjust and feel at home. Learning Italian beforehand through YouTube and TV helped a lot, but taking a language course at the University’s Language Centre really made a difference. Not only did it make everyday life easier, but it also helped me make new friends—we often went for aperitivo after class. One of the best parts of life in Bologna has been exploring its food culture. Trying local dishes like tortellini fritti and mortadella sandwiches with friends, and of course grabbing gelato, have become weekly rituals. The beauty of the city—the colorful buildings, porticoes, and historic towers—never ceases to amaze me. Getting around is easy, and I’ve loved discovering cozy coffee spots and libraries where I can study or relax. Bologna's central location also made it easy for me to travel across Italy on weekends, something that became a hobby and a source of unforgettable memories.
Beyond academics, I’ve taken part in student life through organizations like the Unibo Fintech Society, where I was Head of Events and Relations, and as a Student Ambassador. These experiences enriched my time here in so many ways—personally, professionally, and socially. I’ve met people from all over the world and developed cultural awareness that will be key in my future career, especially in international settings. One standout experience was my Erasmus internship in Seville, Spain, where I worked at the Sevilla Congress & Convention Bureau for four months. It gave me hands-on experience and broadened my global outlook. As I approach graduation, I feel deeply grateful for everything Bologna and the University have given me: unforgettable adventures, lifelong friendships, and countless learning moments. To anyone thinking about studying here—take the leap. It changed my life, and it might just change yours too.
