Empowering Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Egypt through Music and Archaeology
Funded by the University of Bologna – Global South 2025 programme, Sounding Paths is coordinated by Silvia Bruni (Department of the Arts, UniBo) and explores the musical and archaeological heritage of Egypt, with a focus on oblique flutes and double clarinets — instruments rooted in antiquity that remain alive in local musical traditions today.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, the project brings ancient artefacts, contemporary musical practices and local communities into dialogue. Its activities include fieldwork, workshops in Cairo and Bologna, international mobility for students and scholars, and public outreach events. Sounding Paths promotes living sound heritage as a resource for knowledge and cultural tourism, placing Egyptian communities at the heart of the transmission and reinterpretation of their own heritage.
