K&C Reading Seminars "The Self and Its Disorders"

Six meetings based on the reading and discussion of fundamental texts in cognitive science and philosophy of mind.

Programme: This year, the series will revolve around a recently published book, The Self and Its Disorders (Oxford University Press, 2024) by Shaun Gallagher. The book aims to redefine the problem of subjectivity through a new interdisciplinary approach. It shows the implications of this theoretical proposal for understanding phenomena such as psychopathologies, new technologies, and practices like mindfulness and confinement. Each meeting will feature the presentation of two chapters of the book by a young researcher from the Department of Philosophy, followed by an open discussion. At the end of the collective reading and critical reflection, a final event will be held: a discussion of the book with its author.
