Opportunities for multidisciplinary confrontation

The Summer School is based at the archaeological site of Tharros, (Cabras - OR), in the research areas assigned to the Universities of Bologna and Cagliari.
The program is taught by academic staff from the Universities of Bologna and Cagliari - Proff. A.C. Fariselli, G. Garzia, M. Vandini (DBC), C. Carloni (DICAM), E. Antonini (DA), C. Del Vais (DSBCT), and biologists fromthe Marine Protected Areaof the Peninsula of Sinis - Island of Mal di Ventre of the city of Cabras. Within a historical-archaeological approach to the study of the site, students are involved in all different aspects of the fieldwork at the archaeological area of Tharros, including projects for conservation diagnostic, restoration, strategies for enhancing tourism opportunities and communicating cultural heritage.
The Summer School program will incorporate a multidisciplinary team with the goal of training the students to deal with issues concerning restoration, planned maintenance and preservation of sandstone and basalt archaeological structures surviving below and above ground, respecting the typical ecosystem of the Mediterranean coastal environment and with the aim of enhancing appreciation and understanding of the site.
Throughout the course students will receive extensive and in-depth learning in a wide range of subjects taught by specialists in the field of archaeology, multimedia technology, architecture and engineering, physics-chemistry, environment-landscape and tourism enhancement.
Teaching will take place in rooms offered by the City of Cabras and may involve field visits to archaeological excavations designed specifically and provided with an adequate Operative Safety Plan developed according to standards agreed with the local Superintendency.
