User-centric and data-driven retrofitting solutions for a resilient, energy-efficient, low emission and inclusive cultural heritage
Heritage buildings are essential to our cultural identity, making their preservation critical for ensuring they remain accessible, affordable, and livable. Although exterior insulation using hygroscopic materials is often preferred, it can be challenging due to alignment or protection issues. Conversely, interior insulation may cause humidity problems. Additionally, many heritage buildings lack cost-effective heating and cooling systems. The EU-funded Herit4ages project aims to show that heritage buildings can be improved in performance without sacrificing their cultural and architectural significance. Considering the diverse nature of heritage buildings and the varying levels of intervention allowed by protection laws, the project seeks to develop adaptable solutions for different regions across Europe.
