Objects, prints, and costumes reveal the world of Nō theatre through the works preserved in the museum's collection. This project presents the results of a research and cataloguing initiative aimed at reconstructing the complex relationships between performing arts, iconography, and Japanese material culture. From ukiyo-e prints and sword fittings to stage costumes and everyday objects, this website showcases the research undertaken to investigate the presence of Nō theatre not only on the stage, but also within the material culture of premodern Japan.
