Main research activities/topics/projects

The project aims to use bioactive ingredients to develop new potential drugs with neuroprotective activity in order to evaluate their potential use to prevent and/or treat neurodegenerative diseases. The main objectives of the proposal are: (a) design and synthesis of a diverse library of molecules using multicomponent reactions and green chemistry technologies, (b) expand chemical diversity and increase innovation by fragment-based drug discovery and (c) evaluate the activity of the new synthesized compounds in cell based assays and in in vivo models (C.elegans)

Scientific competences: Experience in drug discovery, and knowledge on techniques including extraction methods, microwave-assisted chemistry, compound purification (crystallization, Reverse and Direct phase flash chromatography), 1H, 13C, 19F NMR analysis, mass spectra analysis
