New pharmacological targets for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

Due to poor dietary habits and sedentary lifestyles, metabolic syndrome is on the rise in both Western countries and developing nations. The intrahepatic fat accumulation (steatosis) is a direct consequence of metabolic syndrome and can progress to a chronic inflammatory condition known as steatohepatitis, as well as towards cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Our research interests focus on the role of hepatic receptors in the pathogenesis of steatohepatitis, in preclinical in vitro and in vivo models. The candidate will be involved in the assessment of the activation state of molecular pathways implicated in the pathogenesis of steatohepatitis. The main techniques utilized will include western blot, RT-PCR, and immuno-histochemistry.
