PhD School: ”Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering”. Research Group: Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, Catalysis and Materials (OSCMLab) Research Area: Safe and Sustainable by design nanostructured materials for water treatment

  • What it is

Mobility experience with a research focus

  • Who it’s for

    PhD sandwich; Post Doc

Department

Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “G.Natta”, Politecnico di Milano/PhD School: ”Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering”

Main research activities/topics/projects

he candidate will be involved in the ongoing projects devoted to the (eco)design of safe adsorbent materials for the treatment of fresh-, sea- and wastewater. A key component in materials design will be nanocellulose (NC), which will be extracted from different sources (including different waste ones), using different approaches optimized in our labs. NC will properly functionalized, characterized, and finally used for the synthesis of totally organic or metal-organic composites with enhanced adsorption properties towards a wide range of contaminants (ie emerging contaminants, heavy metals, organic pollutants and dyes). Candidates will have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary research environment ranging from Environmental Engineering to Ecotoxicology, and to be involved in European networks collaborating on this topic. Lab-scale adapted life cycle assessments will be used to drive the eco-design of the synthesis.

Working language

Both Italian and English languages are used in the multicultural research group

Special entry requirements

Basic laboratory skills in organic synthesis and extraction procedures. Minimum knowledge of fundamentals of analytical techniques for materials characterization (NMR, SEM, FT-IR). Minimum experience with HPLC and GC-MS chromatography.

Duration in months (min-max)
