  • Who it’s for

Master students involved in the final research, PhD sandwich, Post Doc

Department

Department of Physics, University of Torino

Main research activities/topics/projects

The Medical Physics Group of the Physics Department of Torino has a long standing activity in developing applications of Nuclear Physics technologies to medicine, with the core activity being the design of beam delivery and range verification systems for Particle Therapy.

The group is currently involved in designing devices based on solid state detectors for implementing new faster and effective treatment modalities. In addition, high performance range verification methods based on time correlations between primary and secondary particles, emitted by the patient, are being investigated.

The range of activities is broad and covers detector characterisation, electronics, test of equipment (in laboratory and with clinical beams), data analysis and simulations. The department houses facilities equipped with cutting-edge instrumentation for sensor characterisation and electronics development. An electron LINAC accelerator is also available for irradiation studies. The research group is lively and friendly, the working language being English and Italian.
