The recent evolution of Italian criminal procedural legislation has been marked, in particular, by two moments: the launch of the new Code of Criminal Procedure inspired by the accusatory model in 1989, on the one hand, and the inclusion in the Italian Constitution of the principles of fair trial in 2001, on the other hand. This evolution has been characterized by the constant tension between the protection of individual rights and the need for system efficiency. It can constitute a useful field of study and research also for an external observer.
The scope of research requires, in order to access bibliographic sources, a good knowledge of the Italian language
