Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures at University of Bergamo
PhD students and postdoctoral researchers will take part in the activities of the JAVISar project (Jihadism Archives: Visual and Intermedia Strategies Against Radicalization) to study the textual and media representations and self-representations produced by the main jihadist factions in the period between the end of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and the most recent operations of groups associated with the Islamic State in its post-caliphate phase.
In particular, researchers working in literary studies, media studies, and film studies will be able to contribute to the analysis of narratives related to jihadism produced by the main Western countries targeted by jihadist attacks (such as the United States, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, etc.).
Experts in the fields of Middle Eastern studies, Arabic studies, and visual studies will be able to contribute to the analysis of texts and videos produced by jihadist factions, examining both their narrative structure and audiovisual language.
Researchers working in pedagogy or in the sociology of conflict will be able to contribute to the development of educational tools to counter Islamophobia and to define de-radicalization strategies
mainly English; the knowledge of Arabic is desirable only for scholars willing to directly engage with jihadist textual and audiovisual sources
