The Doctorate in Art History, Cinema, Audiovisual Media and Music aims to promote specialized research in the fields of art history (from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age), audiovisual (cinema, TV, photography, new media) and musicology. It aims to train young scholars by providing them with a solid knowledge base and methodological tools appropriate to the current reality. The distinctive elements of the proposed course pertain to
the specificity of knowledge and fields of investigation, scientific laboratory facilities, basic methods (bibliographic reconnaissance, documentary and archival research, analysis and criticism of sources, historiographic investigation, stylistic and iconographic reading) augmented by an articulated network of skills concerning: the philological and historical-critical analysis of artistic, photographic, film, audiovisual and musical work; the study of art, film and audiovisual and musical institutions; theories and techniques of production, dissemination, reception; exhibition and museum design; museum architecture; preservation practices, theoretical models and protocols of conservation and restoration of artistic, photographic, cinematographic, audiovisual and musical heritage; media archaeology; archiving of artistic, photographic, cinematographic audiovisual and musical works; management, accessibility/dissemination, sustainability of art historical, photographic, cinematographic, audiovisual and musical archives.
