Main research activities/topics/projects

Studies of sedimentary successions in space and time, through sedimentology, facies analysis, sedimentary unit geometry and architecture, stratigraphy, diagenesis, petrography and geochemistry.
Specifically:
- Investigation of carbonate depositional systems from marine, lacustrine and hydrothermal depositional settings.
- Investigation, quantification and geostatistical modelling of sedimentary heterogeneity of clastic systems (fluvial, deltaic, and deep-water) applied to fluid flow (water, geothermal fluids, hydrocarbons).
- Magnetostratigraphy for age assessment of sedimentary successions
- Characterization of thermal and paleo-fluid evolution in sedimentary basins.
The Department is endowed of advanced laboratories for detailed diagenetic, geochemical, magnetostratigraphic and digital modelling related projects. All scientific activities are performed in English.
