Main research activities/topics/projects

he University of Pavia and the INF-ACT partners (https://spmsf.dip.unipv.it/it/didattica/post-laurea/dottorati-di-ricerca/one-health-approaches-infectious-diseases-and-life-0) offer advanced research opportunities adopting a One Health approach, and integrating human, animal, and environmental health to address challenges in infectious diseases and life sciences. Prospective Brazilian PhD candidates can be integrated into dynamic research groups, contributing to cutting-edge projects in the following areas: 1) Emerging and re-emerging viral threats, understanding the dynamics of viruses like SARS-CoV-2, zoonotic spillovers, and developing strategies for pandemic preparedness; 2) Arthopd vectors and vector-borne pathoges, focusing on diseases like malaria, dengue, and Zika virus, aiming at understanding transmission dynamics and control measures; 3) Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), investigating mechanisms of resistance in pathogens and designing innovative solutions for mitigating AMR in both human and animal populations; 4) Epidemiology, monitoring and modelling (EPIMOD), utilising advanced computational and statistical methods to predict infectious disease spread, develop public health interventions, and inform policies; 5) New therapeutic strategies, exploring novel drugs, vaccines, and therapeutic interventions for the treatment of infectious diseases. The INF-ACT project (https://www.inf-act.it/) facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration, giving students access to a broad network of experts, research infrastructure, and laboratories. Brazilian candidates will be fully immersed in an international research environment, engaging in collaborative projects. This enhances the potential for joint publications, international conferences participation, and exposure to a diverse research ecosystem.

 Working language

The official working languages are both Italian and English. Proficiency in English is essential, while knowledge of Italian can be beneficial for navigating daily life and integration into local culture, though not mandatory.
