Evolutionary Genomics and Next-Generation Behavior in Freshwater Fishes (Biosciences PhD)

  • What it is

Mobility experience with a research focus

  • Who it’s for

Master students involved in the final research, PhD sandwich, Post Doc

Department

Department of Biology, University of Padova

Main research activities/topics/projects

Mate choice and evolutionary genetics in freshwater fish hybrid zones: bioinformatic, molecular, and behavioral approaches. Activities will include preparation and interpretation of whole genome data sets, longitudinal analyses of evolution in experimental and natural populations, and analyses of social interactions on video. There is the option to conduct field research at the CICHAZ field station in Mexico on the way between Brazil and Italy. Working languages are English, Italian, and Spanish. Portuguese mostly understood.

Special entry requirements

Candidates should have minimum one and ideally two or more of the following competencies: molecular bench work, computational bioinformatics, freshwater fish husbandry, and/or observational animal behavior.

Duration in months (min-max)

Master Research: 6 - open

PhD sandwich: 3 -open
