Main research activities/topics/projects

The main activity of the research group at this time is focused both on the environmental monitoring of plastics in different freshwater environments using the infrared spectroscopy by an μFTiR-ATR and on the evaluation of the possible ecotoxicological effects of micro- and nano-plastics, but also of the so-called liquid plastics (water-soluble polymers, WSPs) and tire road wear particles (TRWPs), the new categories of plastic sources. The reference biological models normally used by our research group for ecotoxicological tests are Daphnia magna and Danio rerio (zebrafish), for the management and use of which we have now gained many years of experience.
