The first public event of the PRIN project Preparing for the Present: New Global Dystopian Imaginaries and Public Engagement will be held on 21 February, thus kicking off the research work that will take place over the two-year period 2024-2025.
The opening day will take place in Bologna, and will feature two separate events held within the University.
At 11 a.m., in the Sala Giunta of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (via Cartoleria 5, Bologna), the activities of the PRIN officially opened in a kick-off meeting reserved only to the members of the two research units between Bologna and Turin. During this meeting, the teams will first plan the activities of the coming years, and then the winners of the two research grants dedicated to the project will be introduced.
The second part of the opening event will start at 2.30 p.m. in the Aula Tribunale of Palazzo Malvezzi (Via Zamboni 22, Bologna) with a special lecture by Dr. Marco Malvestio, EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Padua. The lecture, titled Una crisi dell'immaginazione? Pensare il futuro dell'ambiente oltre il paradigma della catastrofe ("A Crisis of Imagination? Thinking about the future of the environment beyond the catastrophe paradigm"), will address some of the crucial research topics of the project and will be an opportunity to establish fruitful relations with other research groups with similar objectives in Italy. In addition to the project team, the conference will also be open to researchers located in Bologna, with the aim of starting a constructive dialogue on the topics of ecocriticism and postapocalyptic literature.
