A talk dedicated to reflecting on the origins and representations of catastrophe, and the question of human, non-human and post-human agency in the Anthropocene.
Date: 12 NOVEMBER 2024 from 16:00 to 18:00
Event location: Aula I di Palazzo Poggi - Via Zamboni 33, Bologna
The theme of this meeting will be the origins and representations of catastrophe, with a specific focus on the question of human, non-human and post-human agency in the Anthropocene.
The increasingly urgent concerns about climate, environmental disasters, and catastrophes that affect us are starting to enter, more and more frequently, into contemporary literature. In this mosaic of real, fantastic and dystopian elements, the pages of many of the books we will discuss convey not only the anxieties and concerns of our time, but also a renewed hope and strength to face a future yet to be written. It is from this that we will start for a reflection on human and non-human agency, and its responsibility and involvement with environmental catastrophes.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, November 12 from 4 p.m. at Aula I of Palazzo Poggi, Via Zamboni 33 (Bologna). University of Bologna professors and researchers Beatrice Masi, Rita Monticelli, Federica Moscatelli, Gino Scatasta will participate, along with Juan Scassa from University of Turin. Director of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Bologna Paola Scrolavezza will introduce and moderate the panel discussion.
The meeting is part of the activities of PRIN 2022 “Getting ready for the Present: New Global Dystopian Imaginaries and Public Engagement. Transcultural and transmedial dialogues between Japanese, Latin American, British and Angloamerican cultures” -- P.I.: Prof. Paola Scrolavezza (University of Bologna).
