WHAT IS INBORC?

"The Intermediate Bodies of the Roman Cities: Sociability and Agency of the Middling Groups in Roman Italy (Late Republic - 3rd c. AD)" is a 3-year EU-funded project that seeks to provide a more complex and complete image of Roman cities. It will go beyond the classical vision based on the élite and characterised by a top-down approach by also considering the actions of middling groups in the social, economic, and political life of the city. To do so, it will focus on the cities’ intermediate bodies – intermediate social aggregational cores positioned between the family and the city – which are our best indicator of the activities of this section of the population.
