Pablo is a development economist who uses primary and secondary data to study the role of institutions (both formal and informal), norms, and religion in economic development. He pays special attention to Sub-Saharan Africa and gender. He received his Ph.D. from the Center for Research in the Economics of Development (CRED) at the University of Namur.

Luca is an applied microeconomist working at the intersection of economic history, gender, and the economics of culture. He received a PhD in Economics from the University of Zurich in 2022. His research combines fine-grained historical, geographical, and survey data to investigate the evolution of cultural norms and their interplay with formal institutions and state policies. In his current projects, he focuses on the determinants of norms regarding rule-following, gender, and parenting in European countries during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Mathilde is an applied microeconomist and a PhD graduate from Paris-Dauphine University. Her research examines the economic and social constraints affecting women and children, particularly in Africa. She uses survey, administrative, and geographic data to evaluate the effectiveness of policies and programs designed to address them.

Simone is the project manager of BELIEFS. Simone is Research Manager at the Department of Economics, University of Bologna.

Sara Tozzi

Sara Tozzi

Sara works as a research assistant and is a Master’s graduate student in Economics and Econometrics at the University of Bologna. She recently completed an internship at the IFO Institute in Munich, working at the Education Centre. Her research interests lie at the intersection of labour and education economics. She aims to combine scientific rigor with societal relevance by applying causal inference and machine learning methods to evaluate public policies in these fields.
