About us

Three research units (University of Bologna, University of Milan, University of Padua) are involved in the PRIN. The theme is developed along three research axes, focusing on the period between the year 888 and 962.

In particular:

  • The study of a large and coherent documentary corpus, which consists of the documents preserved in the State Archives of Piacenza, integrated with other documentary series that are representative of areas outside Piacenza, such as Ravenna and Venice.
  • The selection and analysis of contemporary narrative sources to understand the cultural processes involved in shaping gender roles and depicting kinship relationship.
  • The study of kinship ties and gender representations. In particular, the project utilizes an information processing systemtem based on text marking through a hierarchical set of concepts specifically designed to describe the multifaceted reality of relationships between people with gender-related characteristics.
