Conference: Philosophy and Childhood: Theory and Practice

The aim of the conference is to discuss the pedagogical and philosophical foundations of philosophical practices with children.

The conference is organized by FarFilò, a research group on philosophical practices with children directed by Silvia Demozzi (Department of Education Studies ‘Giovanni Maria Bertin’, Bologna) and Sebastiano Moruzzi (Department of Philosophy and Communication Studies, Bologna).

  1. The aim of the conference is to discuss the pedagogical and philosophical foundations of philosophical practices with children:
  2. Foundational Issues: what are the philosophical and pedagogical frameworks which provide the foundation for doing philosophy with children? What is the role of truth in philosophical practices with children?
  3. Plurality of methods: what are the available methodologies for practicing philosophy with children? What are their main differences? Are there common features which are required in order to propose an effective practice for children?
  4. Philosophy of Childhood: what is the conception of childhood that sustains and justifies the practice? How do different conceptions of childhood give shape to different practices?
  5. Moral and Spiritual Development: how does philosophy help the moral and spiritual development of children? What is the connection between morality, spirituality and philosophy, and how does the moral and spiritual life of children connects with philosophy?
  6. History of philosophy: Should history of philosophy have a role when we do philosophy with children?

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

(deadline September 30th 2018)

 

Guidelines for Submission:

 

Submissions will be blind-refereed and selected on the basis of quality and significance.

Contributed papers will be scheduled for a 50 minutes presentation including discussion.

Abstracts must be written in English and be prepared for blind review, with all self-reference and personal data suppressed.

Please submit an anonymized long abstract of no more than 1500 words (references included). Long abstracts should not only contain the position defended or the issue discussed, but also indicate the outline of the argument.

Contributions by professors, lecturers, postdocs and postgraduate students are equally welcome: we are particularly keen to encourage submissions by early career academics and PhD students.

Abstracts or requests for further information should be sent to farfilo@unibo.it.  Please write ‘Abstract 2018’ as the subject of the email.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is September 30th 2018.
