Charlotte's interview

Name: MAYER Charlotte

Exchange (Erasmus +study/traineeship): Erasmus + study

Course year/post lauream: 2022-2023

Courses, exams, traineeship suggested/non suggested: I followed classes with 3rd, 4th, 5th year. The courses are well structured, and the teachers are interesting.

What was most interesting is the tirocinio, I found the training during the tirocinio really useful. Oral exams are very stressful; speaking orally without any preparation, in front of other students, is very difficult, especially in a foreign and unfamiliar language.

Support and welcome: good. The only thing that could be done on welcome day is a tour of the amphitheaters with the name and year.

Language difficulties: When I wanted to come to Bologna, I chose this university because I was told it also offered courses in English. But that wasn't the case, so the language barrier was a difficulty for me. Few students or teachers know English, or they don't want to use it. For the written material it's ok, but for the spoken it's more complicated and when you speak to someone in english, in particular the teachers, they answer you in Italian, so it doesn't help too much. However, during exams some teachers let us help with English and that's good. For the Italian courses offered by the University of Bologna, it's really great to be able to take a course for free, and the courses are good, but there aren't enough places. But it was a pleasure to learn Italian because it's a beautiful language

Accommodation and how easy was to find it: very difficult, rents are excessively expensive. For some people, sharing a flat is not easy, but the rents are much too high to be on your own and the owners are mostly dishonest. The weak point of this Erasmus is the accommodation. I've even heard of people cancelling their Erasmus in Bologna because of the accommodation.

Transports: I didn’t use it

Integration with Italian students: Integration with Italians is difficult because you naturally turn to people who speak your language or language that you know. Outside the university, there are lots of events and we meet Italian and non-Italian people. But at university I find that Italian students don't integrate Erasmus students, you have to look for information or ask for help, but Italian students don't come on their own to welcome or integrate us.

Evaluation of courses and practices: The courses and course materials are good. The teachers are interesting and good at what they do. I think it would be better to have more lab practice, spread out over the semester, instead of having 2-3 esercitazione of 4h in the semester, have 2h a week or every two weeks, because you have a farm, horses and a hospital that could really be used for more practice. The tirocinio are really good and so are the teachers.

Most profitable year of course to come: 3rd or 5th because of the tirocinio which are really useful.
