Proposal

All over the world, many international conflicts weigh heavily on the fate of millions of people, often forgotten in a conscious oblivion. Just think of the age-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the recent reopening of the war front between Morocco and Western Sahara, the devastating civil war in Yemen, Afghanistan again under the control of the Taliban, the bloody conflict in Tigray, etc., until the very recent war between Russia and Ukraine. In all these conflicts, many young people, although so close geographically, have never had the opportunity to know and speak with their peers of the other nation.

On 9 November 2020, negotiations on the ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the conflict over the legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh were concluded. The guns are silent now, but the matter is far from resolved. Meeting with some students from the two nations involved in the conflict highlighted their need to talk about what they are experiencing and their disappointment at the silence on a question that pervades their lives since they were born. For this reason, the participation of students from both nations is particularly encouraged.

The First video contest of Cultures for Peace wants to be an opportunity to meet all those who are divided by a territorial border, or for those who, while not belonging to the nations involved, wants to help the two parties to overcome mistrust and prejudices in order to build a common future, in the deep conviction that peace passes through mutual listening, and that communication, dialogue and mutual acceptance is what makes us human. All the more so today, in the globalized world in which we live.

Guidelines

Each participant, in group or individually, will have to make a video lasting up to 5 minutes, in the preferred expressive form: video-art, documentary, personal portrait, fiction, etc.

The video can be silent, musical, or with dialogues in Italian, English or other languages with English subtitles.

The works must be sent to the email address silvia.bagni@unibo.it, by 30 October 2022, together with the participation form attached to this webpage.

The works will be judged by a commission of 7 members, which will assess the eligibility of artistic projects in relation to their consistency with the theme of the contest.

Each work submitted and judged admissible will be presented and exhibited during an event dedicated to peace and the theme of conflict resolution, that will be organized in Ravenna, between in November 2022.

A certificate of participation will be issued to all participants.

The organizing committee, moreover, will offer five prizes of participation for the works that will have more represented the objective of the contest, of the gross amount of 300 euros each (taxes included). The awards are funded under the Prin project "From Legal Pluralism to the Intercultural State. Personal statutes, derogations from the common law and mandatory limits in the European legal area" (PI - Prof. Lucio Pegoraro - CUP J34I19004200001).
