MARIO TIRINO is a researcher in Sociology of Cultural and Communicative Processes at the University of Salerno, where he teaches Sociology of Youth Cultures, Media Communication Sport, Television and New Media. His research interests include the sociology of digital cultures, the mediology of literature and comics, and the sociology of sports media. He is the author of the book Postspettatorialità. L'esperienza del cinema nell'era digitale [Postspectatorship. The Experience of Cinema in the Digital Age] (2020) and numerous articles published in national and international scholarly journals and collective volumes. In the field of sociology of sports, he edited a special issue on the sports hero for the journal "Imago" (with L. Bifulco, 2018), a special issue on the mediatization and platformization of cycling cultures for the journal "Eracle" (with P. Landri, 2022) and the volumes Sport e scienze sociali [Sport and Social Sciences] (with L. Bifulco, 2019, CONI Prize), Sport, pratiche culturali e processi educativi [Sport, cultural practices and educational processes](with M. Merico and A. Romeo, 2022), Sport e comunicazione nell'era digitale [Sport and communication in the digital era] (with L. Bifulco, A. Formisano and G. Panico, 2023), L'atleta digitale [The digital athlete] (with P. Russo and S. Castellano, 2024). He is also the creator and scientific director of the seminar series "La Macchina dei Sogni. Sport, media, letteratura" [The Dream Machine. Sport, media, literature] (now in its second edition) and member of the Scientific Committee of the scholarly series "Sport Cultura Società" (FrancoAngeli), directed by G. Russo and B. Mazza. He is editor of the scholarly series "L'Eternauta. Studies on Comics and Media" (with G. Frezza and L. Di Paola) and "Binge Watchers. Media, sociology and the history of seriality" (with M. Teti). He is a member of the Scientific Council (2023-2026) of the Cultural Processes and Institutions Section (PIC) of the Italian Sociology Association (AIS) and scientific head of the Study Center "Media Cultures Society" at the University of Salerno.
