Changes in the implicit and explicit evaluation of food features with age

Food is one of the most salient and rewarding stimuli in the human environment and several food choices are daily influenced by factors such as palatability, healthiness, dietary habits. The Reflective-Impulsive Model proposes a impulsive system guiding approach/avoidance to food based on palatability or reward value and a reflective system considering the learnt health food-related consequences. Thus inhibitory control becomes relevant for modulating the two systems. Explicit (food ratings) and implicit (Implicit Association Test) measures will investigate if healthiness/palatability evaluations change with age in relation to inhibitory control. Assuming a lack of inhibitory control in the elderly (letting the impulsive system take over the reflective one), stronger dissociation between explicit and implicit measures is expected. Results will explain if behavioral anomalies emerge at an implicit level and undermine the reward values of food stimuli against healthiness.

The relations between marital status, loneliness and social abilities in
healthy elderly: A pilot study.

Globally, the number of persons living with dementia is increasing. To prevent the trend, modifiable lifestyle factors are reachable targets. Among them, social interaction is a promising domain for designing cognitive decline prevention paths. Social support, marital status, loneliness, and the level of satisfaction concerning social relationships are aspects modulating the decline.  By focusing on the three pillars underpinning social cognition, i.e., social perception, social understanding, and social decision-making, the project will study the impact that marital status, perceived loneliness, and social support can exert on healthy elderly.  By considering loneliness and social support as covariates of the level of marriage, the study attempts to disentangle the complexity featuring the interaction between social cognition, social health, and cognitive decline.
