The Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna (UNIBO) is one of the largest and most active Italian universities in research and technology transfer in Italy.
This project will be hosted by the Department of History and Cultures (DISCI), which was established in 2012 through the amalgamation of the Departments of Archaeology, Historical and Anthropological Disciplines, Geography, Palaeography and Medieval Studies, Ancient History, and is part of the Department of Linguistic and Oriental Studies.
DISCI offers strong research capabilities and a wide range of teaching opportunities spanning anthropology, archaeology, geography, history, and religious studies from prehistory to the Modern era. Archaeological research covers diverse regions and time periods, focusing on settlements, socio-economic aspects, and artistic production. Historical research delves into ancient to contemporary times, including politics, economics, culture, and gender studies. Anthropological studies examine socio-cultural dynamics globally, while geographical research encompasses human geography, cartography, and spatial analysis. Interdisciplinary groups connect researchers and students, fostering an enriching research and learning environment.
Founded in 1956, the University of South Florida (USF) stands as a dynamic global research institution committed to fostering student triumph, with three campuses spanning the vibrant Tampa Bay vicinity.
The Outgoing phase of this project will be hosted by Institute for Digital Exploration (IDEx).
Decades of academic leadership at USF in the field of 3D visualization have set the stage for the establishment of the IDEx, conceived, in 2018, as an intellectual and professional hub to generate impactful research in the field of digital cultural heritage and train future generations of digital humanists and social scientists. The interdisciplinary vocation of the Institute’s research agenda together with the technological assets in its lab work as major attractors for international students and scholars. The emphasis on the study of the Classical civilizations through the collections of American museums and of the cultural heritage of ancient Sicily and Malta aligns with the global education mission of USF.
The University of Catania is one of the oldest and largest universities in Italy, with approximately 50,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. UNICT comprises 17 Departments as well as numerous Research Centres.
The Secondment phase of this project will be hosted by the Laboratory for Energy Sustainability and Environmental Control (SECA).
The SECA promotes experimental research and numerical analysis in the following areas: Analysis of comfort conditions (thermal, acoustic, and visual) and environmental quality at the building and urban scale; Research on physical-technical techniques and technologies related to the adaptation of cities to climate change and their mitigation; Characterization of the thermophysical, lighting, and acoustic properties of the main elements composing the built environment, both at the building and urban scale (thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, specific heat, thermal transmittance, spectral reflectivity, acoustic insulation levels), through experimental activities in situ and in the laboratory; Thermo-hygrometric and energy simulation in dynamic regimes at the scale of building components and the entire building; Monitoring of thermal comfort conditions and indoor and outdoor environmental quality variables (air temperature and relative humidity, mean radiant temperature, air velocity, illuminance, luminance, sound pressure levels, pollutant concentrations) through in situ activities.
BALNEa is funded by the European Union under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme within Horizon Europe. The project contributes to the EU’s commitment to fostering research excellence, international mobility, and interdisciplinary training.
Grant Agreement No.: 101198323
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions support researchers at all stages of their careers, promoting innovation, knowledge exchange, and the development of long-term research capacity across Europe and beyond.
