The University of Bologna, based on the experience and results obtained in the period 2007-2013 in the internationalization of education, has recently developed its new Internationalization strategy named “ALMA GLOBAL 2020”, fostering the participation in multilateral projects both at academic and organizational level to enhance the quality of the education and research.

UNIBO participates in the ARCHEA project through the Department of Architecture (DA).

The DA of UNIBO is leader for research and teaching activities in the fields of architectural design and urban planning.

The DA established a broader net of relationships and collaborations with important Eu and extra-Eu partners involved in research projects, especially with research institutions. The constant integration between advanced scientific research and didactic training at various levels, the international content dimension, contribute to ensuring that the profiles of our graduates are recognized and validated by interlocutors in the international context.

The DA is an active member of the EAAE – European Association for Architectural Education.

Lamberto Amistadi is Associate Professor in architectural and urban Design at the DA of the University of Bologna. He is deputy director of the online magazine “FAMagazine”, devoted to research and projects concerning architecture and the city, and co-director of the series “TECA. Teorie della Composizione architettonica” (Clean). Along with Ildebrando Clemente, he founded and directs the series “SOUNDINGS: Theory and Architectural Openness” (Aión), which has included monographic volumes on John Hejduk and Aldo Rossi. He is author of numerous publications, including the books Paesaggio come rappresentazione (Clean, 2008), La costruzione della città (Il Poligrafo, 2012), Architettura e Città (with Enrico Prandi, FAEdizioni 2016).

In 2018 he won a position as Coordinator and Chief Science Officer in the European-level call of Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education, entitled “ARCHEA Architectural European Medium-Sized City Arrangement”.

Gino Malacarne is Full Professor in architectural and urban Design at DA and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture since 2005 to 2012. From 2012 to 2015 he is vice-President of the Engineering and Architecture School and Coordinator of the Five Years Master Degree in Architecture of UNIBO. He is in numerous Scientific Committees of publishing series and he coordinated several Italian and international projects, including the PRIN 2009 entitled “Residential Buildings and Urban Design, building structures, settlement models and definition of collective places.”

In 2005, he was awarded a PhD in architectural Composition at the IUAV, University of Venice. His research focuses on the relationship between theory and techniques of architectural composition in relation to the sphere of urban phenomena.

The ArchéA Programme makes use of the collaboration of LaMo.

The LaMo - Architecture Model Laboratory, is a Scientific / Didactic Laboratory of the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna. Since its foundation in 2000, it has been configured as a service structure for departmental research and as a support structure for the teaching of the single-cycle Master's degree program in Architecture. Still today, in addition to the commitment to the activities promoted by the DA in the third mission, it plays this role and supports the development of innovative research in the field of 3D representation.

In the Laboratory, students, PhD students, researchers and professors of the Department, make use of the experience of the technical staff (Davide Giaffreda and Marika Mangano) and the scientific director of the laboratory (prof. Francesco Gulinello) to design, develop and implement models in different representation scales, from the territorial and urban scale to the architectural and detail scale, identifying together the most appropriate techniques and materials.

The laboratory, in its large spaces, offers the possibility of working with various equipment, from traditional machine tools for carpentry to the most advanced CAD-CAM technologies: CNC milling and engraving pantograph, cutting and milling plotter, cutting and engraving printer laser, plotter with hot wire for polystyrene for 2D and 3D cutting, 3D printer with FDM technology.

Davide Giaffreda, architect, since 2000 has been the technical manager of LaMo - Architecture Model Laboratory of the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna, where he carries out research and teaching support activities for the architectural courses.

His work focuses on the use of physical modeling in teaching the architectural project and as a representation tool, by experimenting methods, techniques and materials. In the academic year 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 he is a contract professor at the University of Bologna for the basic modeling courses.

Marika Mangano born in Palermo in 1977. She moved to Cesena to follow her studies at the Faculty of Architecture "Aldo Rossi", where she began to collaborate with the Architectural Model Laboratory LaMo, carrying out support for the practical ‐ formative activities of the degree course.

Since 2006 she has held the role of laboratory technician within the LaMo, mainly devoting herself to tecnical assistance for the creation of models relating to teaching activities. She is involved in various research and exhibition activities of the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna, working on the creation of numerous models, from the urban and territorial scale to the detailed one.

Francesca Quatrosi is a member of the CeSIA - Systems and Information Services area of UNIBO, in the specific sector of E-Learning. She has great familiarity with authoring tools and plugins integrated in Moodle and experience assisting teachers and tutors throughout on line course development by providing support on pedagogy and course design to determine best strategy and approach for blended learning and full-distance learning courses using Moodle integrated tools for activities and resources.

Francesco Mirri. He was born in Castel San Pietro Terme in the province of Bologna in 1992 and graduated in 2018 at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna - Department of Architecture, seat of Cesena with points 110 cum laude. The main research topics are conducted towards the "Urban Project" identifying in the relationship between architecture and public space a mother role for the understanding of those principles of city construction and organization of residual places object of urban development.

He has been a research assistant and teaching tutor since 2018. He is involved in teaching support for the Degree Laboratory course: Urban project - Architectural and urban composition. He is currently a coordinated and continuous collaborator at the Department of Architecture of Bologna within the staff of the research unit concerning the competitive European tender Erasmus + Strategic Partnerships for higher education, called ARCHEA_ARCHitectural European medium-sized city Arrangement.
