Global sustainability and innovation: Alma Mater confirms its place at the top of the THE ranking

The University of Bologna confirms its status as the best Italian university in the field of sustainable development, securing the national top spot in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings for the seventh consecutive year. The international ranking, which evaluated as many as 1,603 universities worldwide in this edition, measures the concrete commitment of universities to addressing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' Agenda 2030. The Alma Mater is stably positioned in the 101-200 bracket globally, sharing the Italian top spot with the Politecnico di Milano.

For our Alumni community, a significant result with a direct professional impact comes from the indicator linked to Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9). In this specific area, the University climbed eight positions, reaching 19th place overall in the world and first in Italy. This is an extraordinary achievement that rewards the quality of applied research, technology transfer, and the solid relationships that the University consistently cultivates with the production system. Those who studied in Bologna thus bring cutting-edge skills to the job market, further confirmed by the university's placement in the global top 100 for decent work and economic growth (SDG 8).

As highlighted by Rector Giovanni Molari, sustainability is not a mere goal, but a constitutive dimension of the Alma Mater's very identity. In addition to its successes on the innovation front, the University secured four other strategic national records: Quality Education (SDG 4), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), an area where Bologna ranks 44th globally. This integrated and responsible vision of knowledge makes our former students true ambassadors for a fairer and more sustainable future within companies, institutions, and global organizations.
