GUARDIAN BREEDERS

Native livestock breeds represent an irreplaceable heritage. Centuries of adaptation to peculiar environments have forged their morphological and productive characteristics. Ancient traditions and quality production are linked to the breeding of these animals.

In Italy, livestock biodiversity is among the richest on the entire European continent, with hundreds of breeds still present. Since the middle of the last century, with the start of mechanization in agriculture and the expansion of industrial breeding, which focused on more productive foreign breeds, this precious heritage was close to disapper. In fact, many breeds have disappeared, several others remain with small numbers, coming close to extinction.

The Guardian Breeders were the ones who prevented so many Italian breeds from disappearing forever. It was the passion and perseverance of women and men, who among a thousand difficulties continued the breeding of these animals, that still allows us to admire them today.

Each photo corresponds to a Guardian Breeder with an animal of the breed race.
