WHAT IS inVISIBILI
inVISIBILI is a science-outreach initiative—aimed at children aged 5 to 11—based in the Department of Physics and Astronomy “A. Righi” at Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.
Launched in the 2023/2024 school year, the project reached more than 3,000 girls and boys across over 150 classes in preschool, primary, and lower-secondary schools. Activities took place in schools in Bologna and neighboring municipalities, as well as in preschools in Cesena—by design, to “go beyond” the metropolitan area and involve schools often penalized by geographic distance.
The goals of inVISIBILI are to develop STEM skills and to fight gender disparity in STEM.

WHY inVISIBILI
The project’s name refers to its two core themes: sharing with younger generations the search for the hidden components of our Universe (particles such as neutrinos and dark matter), and highlighting the crucial role played by women scientists, both today and in the past. The aim is to offer credible role models that can inspire and draw young people closer to science, strengthening their sense of self-efficacy and dismantling the barriers to access that still shape STEM career choices from a very early age.
