LIFE SILENT is a research project aimed at developing sustainable and eco-compatible solutions to mitigate the noise emissions produced by road and rail traffic in complex urban environments, where the implementation of sound mitigation measures along the propagation routes (anti-noise barriers ) is inapplicable for reasons of space and opportunity (visual impact, air circulation). During the project, lasting 60 months starting from 09/01/2023, noise-reducing flooring will be tested and developed with recycled and non-toxic materials, coming from the paper and used tire supply chains, and low noise barriers to contain the noise emissions from railway traffic, also made with recycled materials.
Here are all the updates and information on the project:
The pilot area is located in Muratella in Rome, an urban area of the 11th Municipality with approximately 154,974 inhabitants, crossed by the Rome-Fiumicino Airport railway line managed by RFI, and by the A91 motorway managed by ANAS.
Go to pageThe project's total cost is equal to 2.65 million euros, and the maximum co-financing that the EC will grant is equal to 60% of the total eligible costs.
The partnership is made up of ANAS (coordinator), RFI, ITALFERR, National Research Council, ARPAT - Regional Agency for the protection of the Tuscan environment, University of Bologna - Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Reggio Calabria, MOPI - Italian society for applied research and development of new materials, TEBAID Consortium - Consortium of the University of Cosenza for advanced biomedical technologies.
