Who are Paralympic athletes, really? Superheroes? Tragic heroes? No—they’re real athletes, with muscles, technique, and a crazy drive to win. Together, we’ll explore how the media tell their stories (sometimes badly) and how they would like to be portrayed (better). An ironic, deeply human journey behind the scenes of the Paralympic Games. Pablo Gómez-Iniesta takes us behind the scenes of Paralympic storytelling. Forget superpowers and tear-jerker headlines: Paralympic athletes are real professionals, and they have a lot to say about how the media portray them. A semi-serious talk to understand what needs to change, what already works (and why), and how—even with the best intentions—good storytelling can sometimes do harm.
