Tuesday 20 May is the date for the screening of “Po” (2002): Andrea Segre's documentary, written with Gian Antonio Stella, recounts the flood of 14 November 1951, when the river Po overflowed in Occhiobello, a small municipality in the province of Rovigo, causing the flooding of Polesine. It was an environmental catastrophe that caused one hundred and two victims and over one hundred thousand displaced persons, resulting in the immediate evacuation of the area, forced emigration in search of work, and a difficult reconstruction and return. Through the direct testimony of the then children, now elderly, and archive footage from the Istituto Luce, the film reconstructs those tragic events, highlighting the importance of historical memory and making us reflect on the resilience of a community in the face of catastrophe.
