Rethinking Resources for a Sustainable Future in Space: how research can inspire new ways of exploring the universe.

  • Date: 01 FEBRUARY 2025

  • Event location: Teatro Diego Fabbri, Forlì

  • Type: Outreach

Our project coordinator was invited to speak at TEDx Forlì, which took place on 1 February 2025 at the Teatro Diego Fabbri, attracting nearly 700 attendees. The event, entitled ICARO – Non esistono desideri inutili (There Are No Useless Desires), brought together distinguished speakers from different fields to share forward-looking ideas and inspiring experiences.

The talk focused on the need to rethink the use and management of resources in space, as a pathway towards more autonomous, efficient, and sustainable missions. Taking water as a conceptual example, the presentation echoed the objectives of WET – Water-based Electric Thrusters, which seeks to develop innovative propulsion technologies, using water as propellant.

Both the TEDx contribution and the WET project embody a shared vision: resource-efficient technologies that enable new mission architectures, help mitigate space debris, and promote long-term sustainability in space exploration.

We are proud to see our coordinator contributing to the broader public dialogue on the future of space — and how technologies like those developed in WET can help make that future more sustainable.
