La Boite a Champignons

SHORT DESCRIPTION: La Boite a champignons is a company that produces oyster mushrooms using coffee grounds as a substrate.  It is a project that combines urban agriculture, solidarity and circular economy.  The idea was born from a previous experience: UpCycle. UpCylce studied, together with Asian engineers, the problems related to food in African cities. In 2014, in a cellar in the heart of the international market of Rungis, near Paris, it began to graft mushroom production, crossing its attention to social issues and environmental sustainability.

KEY ACTIVITIES: the process starts with the gathering of coffee grounds, continues with the production of mushrooms, but does not end there. The substrate, previously used for cultivation, is distributed to horticulturists who can fertilize their crops with it.

Oyster fungi simply feed on wood, which is why they grow rather easily if the conditions of an undergrowth are recreated. Potentially, in indoor, they grow all year round, the ideal temperature is between 15 and 25 ° C and they benefit from the light. As well as having its own production, La boite a champignons also transmits its knowledge and techniques via online tutorials and on-site workshops.

RELEVANT DIMENSION: mushrooms, urban,.

BUSINESS MODELS: Experimental (new production methods, innovation) .
